"22° – Interior Octagonal Arcade Pier"

Seventh Century Umayyad mosaics in the Qubbat al-Sakhra (Dome of the Rock), Masjid al-Aqsa, Jerusalem. Original mosaics attributed to the caliph Abd al-Malik bin Marwan (ruled 685-705 C.E.).

A pier of the interior octagonal arcade featuring a central panel with undulating fruit-bearing vines growing from a ribboned acanthus. Note the crowns 'tieing' the rinceaux and the jewelled 'cornucopia' to the right.
