"Window Patterns on Pier, West Arcade"

Interior photographs of and in the Qubbat al-Sakhra (Dome of the Rock), Masjid al-Aqsa, Haram al-Sharif, Jerusalem.

Dappled light from one of the stained glass windows falling on one of the piers of the octagonal arcade. This view down the outside ambulatory reveals some of the reputed Mamluk designs in the ceiling, the gilded Corinthian capitals, bookmatched and quartersawn marble designs on the walls and piers, as well as the hammered metalwork on the undersides of the tie beams. The dappled light dances across the other patterns and contributes to the dynamic effects of the building's ornament.
