View down from scaffolding above the Rock in the Dome. While photographing the mosaics of the lower register of the drum, I saw the last rays of the sun streaming in through the West door. In the foreground, is a fragment of the Quranic Sura Ta-Ha in a mosaic inscription from the Ayyubid period. Beneath that is a frieze of playfully irregular scrolling acanthus leaves.
