Studio Said

Chthonic, 2006.

A series focusing on the dance of light and shade among freshly plastered cross vaults in the Old City of Aleppo.

With basic geometries of point, line, and curve, the photographs embody an imperfect symmetry of this ancient artisanal production.  I aspire to give viewers access to some of the poetry in Arab culture, to provide an alternative to today's reality and the media's relentless barrage of violence and despair. The arcades were utterly destroyed in the fighting of 2013. The photographs may be all that remain.
